Why AI means your executive’s LinkedIn post might matter more than you think
Building a spokesperson’s profile has always been a core PR activity. Securing bylines, media interviews and speaking slots at events, all help to raise their profile and build credibility for the company at large.
But we’re now seeing a new layer of importance for thought leadership, because it’s not just human readers paying attention anymore.
AI systems like Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini build lasting associations between named individuals and the topics they are consistently linked to. That means the consistency of your spokesperson’s profile is starting to shape how credible an AI system judges them to be on a given subject, alongside the traditional reputational benefit of good visibility.
When prospective buyers ask their favourite LLM for advice in finding a new cybersecurity vendor, those connections will make all the difference in who it recommends.
AI is building a memory of who the experts are
This is a structural feature of how these systems learn. When a named person shows up repeatedly, across multiple credible sources, talking about the same two or three themes, that pattern gets reinforced.
Earned media still carries the most weight here, so thought leadership articles, interviews and commentary in key titles are still very important.
LinkedIn activity reinforces an established narrative, but it does not replace the credibility that comes from independent editorial coverage. The two need to work together, with LinkedIn echoing the same themes and language your bylines and interviews are already building.
Consistency beats volume
There is a flip side to this pattern-building, though. AI systems can more easily place spokespeople frequently quoted on specific topics, so when a spokesperson’s output is scattered across unrelated topics, or inconsistent in how it frames their expertise, that pattern may not form as strongly.
This means tightening focus rather than cutting spokesperson activity. A good starting point is to check whether your spokesperson’s byline topics, conference talks and LinkedIn commentary all point at the same core themes, rather than chasing every trending news hook that comes along.
Planning for the shift
None of this requires abandoning a well-run executive visibility programme, but rather being more deliberate about what that programme is trying to make your spokesperson known for, and making sure every channel says the same thing. Establishing a specific objective and maintaining a consistent message are fundamental principles of good comms that are now finding a new layer of importance with AI searches.
This is just one part of how AI is reshaping the fundamentals of cybersecurity PR.
