Humans Error in Cybersecurity

Since the pandemic began in 2020, many workplace processes have been digitalized. This has caused an increase in data vulnerability and made the cybersecurity industry even more important. More people are working remotely, more companies are storing their data on the cloud, and they are also automatizing internal processes with technological solutions. This opens the door for human error.

Inevitably, with all this progress, some problems have come along the way. How can we stay cyber secure in such an interconnected world? We have now to be worried, not only about the company’s internal network and devices, but also about securing remote working locations, the devices we’re working with, the cloud and everything in between.

Furthermore, according to a World Economics Forum (WEF) report, human error causes 95% of company breaches. This means that protecting your environment with software and hardware solutions isn’t enough. You must also be aware of threats such as phishing that rely on employees making mistakes.

Knowing this, we would like to share some tips to help organisations keep their working environment secure:

  1. Create a backup: You should be making regular copies of the most important company data regularly. This way, if you suffer an attack and cannot access your data, you wont lose key information.
  2. Be proactive: Plan your strategy in the event of a ransomware attack or if an employee falls for a phishing scam. If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail!
  3. Scan and filter emails: One of the most common forms of cyberattack is an email asking you to download a file or click a link, which can compromise your account. To avoid this, businesses should implement email filters to protect their employees.
  4. Keep systems updated: A key action is to always keep your devices and software up-to-date. These patches fix many of the bugs that cybercriminals can exploit.
  5. Think before you click: As we now know, the majority of breaches come from employees’ errors, so all members of the team need training to check the safety of a link or document before they proceed.

With these tips, team collaboration and a strong and capable cybersecurity stack, companies can manage this risk effectively.
